Innocent Voices
It is the middle of the Salvadorian War and twelve-year-old boys are being rousted from their classrooms to fight in the government armed forces against the peasant rebels of the FMLN.
Chava (Carlos Padilla), an eleven-year-old boy who has been left as “the man of the house” after his father abandons his family, has one more year of innocence left before he too will be conscripted to fight for the government.
Based on the true story of screenwriter Oscar Torre’s embattled childhood, Luis Mandoki’s Innocent Voices is the harrowing tale of survival and how even war cannot diminish a child’s indomitable spirit.
